Query fan-out tool: See the searches AI actually runs
Most fan-out tools ask an AI to guess the subqueries. This free query fan-out tool shows the searches ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini actually ran for your prompt, which ones came back every time, and where your site ranks on Google for each.
Many prompts? Run a bulk list and download one CSV for all of them. Needs a Google sign-in.
None of these is Google AI Mode. Nobody outside Google can see AI Mode's own searches.
Every search, merged
Each search appears once, even when an engine worded it a little differently. In the "Run by" column, a filled dot means that run ran the search, a hollow dot means it didn't, and a dashed dot means that run gave no answer.
Who got cited
Cited domains are the ones each engine linked in its answers, counted across all runs, with your site highlighted.
Bulk fan-out: a list of prompts
Paste a list of prompts, one per line. Each prompt runs once on the engines you pick, and one CSV holds every search from the whole list, ready for Google Sheets or Excel.
What query fan-out is
Query fan-out is a retrieval technique in which a search system decomposes a user query into multiple related subqueries, searches for information relevant to those subqueries, and combines the retrieved information into a response.
More on how it works at queryfanout.wiki.
For you, fan-out means one question can trigger several searches, and your page has to rank for the searches an engine runs, not only for the question the person typed. This tool asks each engine your prompt with web search on and reads back the searches it ran. Our study of fan-out queries shows how differently ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini searched the same 100 prompts.
Which engines this tool asks
This tool asks three engines, and each label says exactly what that engine is.
ChatGPT
The ChatGPT app with search. It is the slowest of the three and can take up to a minute for each run.
Claude
Anthropic's API with web search on. It reports the pages it used, and the searches it ran.
Gemini
Google's API with Google Search grounding. Its provider is rate limited at times, so a run can come back busy. Try that engine again after a minute.
Google AI Mode
AI Mode is a separate Google product, and its searches stay inside Google. This tool can show the searches of the three engines above, and nothing from AI Mode.
How to read the fan-out results
The fan-out results show which searches the engines ran, how steady they are, and whether your site shows up for them.
- Every run. An engine ran that search in every one of its runs. Those are the searches to build for first. A search that came back once may not repeat.
- Near-duplicates. Searches that differ only by case, spacing, quotes or one small word share a row, and the other wordings are listed under it.
- Your site on Google. This checks Google's top 10 results for that search in the United States, in English. A miss means your site isn't in those ten results, not that it never ranks.
- Who got cited. A cited domain is one the engine linked in its answer. Your site is highlighted when it appears.
- A search is not a ranking. An engine can run a search and still not use what it finds. The citations show what it used.
