Get the organization schema skill
The organization schema skill does this page's job as a conversation: install it, ask for your schema, and it asks for your name, the variations people use and your profiles, reads the schema your site has now, and writes the markup with the same checks.
organization-schema.zip, 59 KB, version 1.0: a SKILL.md, a Python script that needs nothing past the standard library, and two reference pages. Free to use.
It is one of our free Claude SEO skills. The other checks whether Common Crawl has your pages.
- Claude on the web or desktop. Turn on code execution in Settings, Capabilities. Then open Customize, Skills, press the plus button, Create skill, Upload a skill, and pick the ZIP.
- Claude Code. Unzip it into
~/.claude/skills/, or into.claude/skills/inside a project. - Codex and other tools that read SKILL.md files. Unzip it into their skills folder:
~/.agents/skills/for Codex. - Then ask for it. "Make organization schema for Acme Analytics, acme.com." The skill takes it from there.
How the organization schema generator works
The organization schema generator builds the code in your browser as you type, in three steps.
- Start with your name and website. They are the two things every organization schema needs. Press Fill from my site and the generator reads your home page and the About, Contact and Pricing pages it links to, then fills the empty fields from the schema, description and contact links they carry, including the profiles in the schema you have now.
- Add the variations and the profiles. The generator suggests the variations it can work out from your name and domain, like initials and the domain itself. Pick the ones people really use, add any others, then paste your profile links, one per line.
- Copy the code. The code changes with every field, and the checks under it say what to fix: a personal LinkedIn profile in the organization's links, a logo link that isn't an image, a local business with no street address.
What name variations do in schema
Name variations in schema tell search engines and AI assistants that every spelling of your name means one organization.
alternateName
alternateName holds the other names people use: short forms, initials, your domain, a former name. Google reads the same list for the site name it shows in results, in the order you give it.
sameAs
sameAs lists your profiles and the pages about you on other sites, so engines can match the organization on LinkedIn, Crunchbase or Wikipedia to the one on your site.
One @id for the organization
One @id gives the organization one address, yoursite.com/#organization, that the WebSite, the founders and any other markup on the site point to, so they all describe one thing.
One name everywhere
Use one name everywhere: the same spelling on your site, on every profile and in the schema. The schema confirms what the rest of the web says about you; it can't settle a name spelled four ways.
Where to put organization schema
Put organization schema in the head of your home page, once.
- The home page. The WebSite part has to be on the home page, because that's the only page where Google reads site names. The Organization part could sit on an About page instead, but keep one copy of it.
- WordPress. Paste the code into a header code plugin or the theme's head. If Yoast, Rank Math or another SEO plugin already writes Organization schema, fill in its organization settings with the same facts or switch that output off, so the site has one Organization, not two.
- Boxes that break line breaks. Some header boxes squash or mangle code that runs over many lines. Pick One line above the code and paste that instead.
- Other markup on your site. Articles, products and anything else that names a publisher or a brand can point to the organization with
{"@id": "https://yoursite.com/#organization"}instead of repeating it.
How to test organization schema
Test organization schema once it's live on your home page, with two free checkers from Google and schema.org and two of ours.
- Rich Results Test. Paste your home page into Google's Rich Results Test to see the structured data Google reads and any error in it.
- Schema Markup Validator. The Schema Markup Validator checks the code against schema.org itself, property by property.
- Knowledge Panel checker. The Knowledge Panel checker shows what Google's Knowledge Graph holds for each of your names, and whether one of them already has an entity.
- Brand Facts. Brand Facts asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini about your brand and checks what they say against your own facts.
What organization schema won't do
Organization schema won't rank a page by itself: Google ranks pages on relevance and authority, and markup is neither. What it does is tell engines which names, website, logo and profiles belong to one organization, so they don't mix you up with a business that has a similar name and they show your own site name and logo.
Organization schema questions
These organization schema questions come up most, about the markup, the generator and the skill.
What is organization schema?
Organization schema is structured data, usually a JSON-LD block in a page's head, that tells search engines and AI assistants the facts about an organization: its official name, the other names it goes by, its website, logo, profiles and founders.
Does organization schema help SEO?
Organization schema doesn't move rankings by itself, because Google ranks pages on relevance and authority. It ties your names, website and profiles to one entity, which helps Google pick your site name and logo and helps engines tell you apart from organizations with similar names.
What should go in alternateName?
alternateName should hold the other names people really use for your organization: a short form, initials, your domain name, a former name or the name in another language, most used first. Leave out search phrases, slogans and misspellings.
What is sameAs in schema?
sameAs in schema is the list of links to your organization's own profiles and the pages about it on other sites, like your LinkedIn company page, social accounts, Crunchbase, Wikipedia and Wikidata. It tells engines those pages describe the same organization as your site.
Where do I put organization schema?
Put organization schema in the head of your home page, once. The WebSite part has to be on the home page, because that's the only page where Google reads site names.
Do I need WebSite schema too?
WebSite schema belongs next to organization schema, because Google reads the site name it shows in results from it. The generator gives both the same name and the same variations, in the same order, so they never disagree.
Can I add this organization schema to WordPress?
You can add this organization schema to WordPress with a header code plugin or the theme's head. If Yoast, Rank Math or another SEO plugin already writes Organization schema, fill in its organization settings with the same facts or switch that output off, so the site has one Organization.
What does the organization schema skill need?
The organization schema skill needs an AI assistant that reads SKILL.md files, like Claude on the web or desktop, Claude Code or Codex, and Python 3 for its helper script, which uses nothing past the standard library. In Claude on the web and desktop, code execution has to be on.
Is the organization schema generator free?
Yes, the organization schema generator is free, with no sign-up, and it builds the code in your browser. Fill from my site reads your pages on our server, with a daily limit.
