How to share Search Console access?

By GEO Search Console Published

To share Search Console access, an owner opens Settings, then Users and permissions, clicks Add user, types the person's Google account address and picks Full or Restricted. The person sees the property the next time they open Search Console.

Only owners can share access. This page is part of our Google Search Console FAQ.

Steps to share Search Console access

Share Search Console access in five steps:

  1. Open Search Console with an owner account and pick the site.
  2. Go to Settings, then Users and permissions.
  3. Click Add user.
  4. Type the person's Google account address: a Gmail or Google Workspace address.
  5. Pick Full or Restricted, then click Add.

To give someone owner rights, use the same screen: an owner can add a delegated owner without any new verification.

Which access level to share

Share the lowest Search Console access level that does the job:

  • Restricted for someone who only reads reports, such as a manager or a client.
  • Full for someone who submits sitemaps, asks for indexing or validates fixes, such as an SEO or a developer.
  • Owner only for the people who run the site, since owners can add and remove everyone else.

Google's page on owners, users and permissions lists what each level can do, and our page on Google Search Console access explains the levels.

Sharing one report without sharing access

To share one Search Console report without giving access, use the Share button on that report.

The link shows that view of the report and nothing else, and it doesn't let the person take any action on your site. You can turn the link off again from the same button.

When a project ends, go back to Users and permissions and remove the people who no longer need access. Keep at least two verified owners, so the site is never locked out.
