Do Claude SEO skills send your data anywhere?

By GEO Search Console Published

Our Claude SEO skills don't send your data anywhere you didn't ask for, and nothing they read is sent to us. Each script contacts only the address you give it or Common Crawl's own servers.

Neither skill has a server of ours to report to. This page is part of our free Claude SEO skills guide.

What the organization schema skill reads

The organization schema skill reads one thing from the web: the page address you give it, when it checks the schema your site has now.

Everything else comes from your answers: the names, logo, profiles and founders. If Claude can search the web, it may look up your official profiles, then it asks you to confirm each one before it adds it. It never adds a profile you haven't confirmed. The finished markup is printed for you to paste in, and nothing is published for you.

What the Common Crawl check sends

The Common Crawl check sends only the address you check, to Common Crawl's index at index.commoncrawl.org and its archive at data.commoncrawl.org.

It doesn't visit your site at all: it reads the copies and the robots.txt Common Crawl saved when its bot came by. It makes one lookup at a time, with a second between lookups, so the free index isn't flooded. Our Common Crawl checker does the same lookups from your browser.

How to check where any skill sends data

To check where any skill sends data, open its ZIP and read the scripts before you install it, since a skill is plain text.

Look for web addresses, API keys and upload calls.

  • Claude's Help Center advises installing skills only from sources you trust, because a skill can tell Claude to install other software.
  • Custom skills you upload to Claude aren't visible to colleagues until you share them.
  • A skill that calls a paid data service sends your request to that service, so read its own privacy terms too.
